Who is eligible to hire a maid/helper in Singapore?As an employer, you need to meet the eligibility criteria before hiring a migrant domestic worker (MDW). To hire a helper, you must: Be 21 years old and above. Not be an undischarged bankrupt. Have the mental capacity to fully understand and discharge your responsibility as an employer. We will also consider your care-giving needs (e.g. young children or elderly family members) and financial ability to hire, maintain and upkeep the helper in an acceptable accommodation.

Can I hire a second helper (MDW)You may be able to hire a second migrant domestic worker (MDW) if you meet any of the following criteria: You or your spouse is at least 60 years old. You have at least 2 children below 18 years old and living with you. You have a parent or parent-in-law who is at least 60 years old and living with you. We will also consider your financial ability to hire, maintain and upkeep the helpers in an acceptable accommodation.

How long is a work permit valid?A work permit for an FDW is valid for up to 2 years and can be renewed if the employer meets requirements

Are helpers entitled to rest days?Yes, FDWs are entitled to one rest day per week, which can be compensated if worked, or a different day off can be agreed upon.

Can I hire an MDW if I am holding a Long-Term Visit Pass?Yes, you are eligible to hire a migrant domestic worker, provided your Long-Term Visit Pass is valid when you apply for her Work Permit. You will also have to meet all other criteria for employing MDWs.
